KTM Super Duke swingarm protection is worth considering because the single-sided swingarm is one of the motorcycle’s defining visual features, as well as an exposed and costly component that can be vulnerable if the bike is dropped or makes contact with the ground.
The Racetorx RTX410 was developed to provide targeted protection without compromising the shape and appearance of the motorcycle. Instead of producing a generic protector, Racetorx scanned the swingarm and created a Delrin crash bobbin that follows its contours.
The result is a low-profile protector designed specifically for the vulnerable area of the KTM 1290 and 1390 Super Duke swingarm.
Why KTM Super Duke swingarm protection matters
Crash protection cannot make a motorcycle immune to damage. The outcome of any fall depends on the speed, surface, angle of impact and the other components that contact the ground.
However, adding protection to exposed areas can help reduce the likelihood or severity of direct contact damage in certain drops and slides.
On the KTM Super Duke, the single-sided swingarm is both mechanically important and visually prominent. Scraping or impact damage can affect an expensive part of the motorcycle and quickly spoil the appearance of an otherwise carefully maintained bike.
The purpose of the RTX410 is to provide an additional contact surface over a vulnerable section of the swingarm. It is intended to meet the ground before the protected area in applicable drop or slide situations.
A protector designed around the actual swingarm
Fit is particularly important when a component is attached directly to the swingarm.
A generic flat-backed protector would not naturally follow the changing shape of the surface. Gaps or poorly supported areas could affect both its appearance and the quality of the adhesive bond.
Racetorx developed the RTX410 by 3D scanning the KTM swingarm. The finished component is profiled to sit within the available space and follow the surrounding contours.
This serves two purposes. First, it gives the supplied 3M tape a properly matched surface on which to create its bond. Second, it allows the crash bobbin to look integrated with the motorcycle rather than appearing like an unrelated component attached afterwards.

The design follows the lines of the Super Duke swingarm, producing a clean installation while placing Delrin protection over the exposed area.
Why is the RTX410 manufactured from Delrin?
The RTX410 crash bobbin is machined from Delrin, a material commonly used for motorcycle crash-protection components.
For the RTX410, the material allows Racetorx to produce the detailed profile required to match the scanned swingarm while retaining the solid construction expected from a crash protector.
Its black finish also works naturally with the surrounding swingarm, tyre and rear-wheel components. This helps the protector remain visually discreet when installed.
The intention is not to add an oversized projection to the motorcycle. It is to place a shaped protective component where it is needed while maintaining the appearance of the KTM.
How is the RTX410 installed?
The RTX410 does not require the swingarm to be drilled or permanently modified. It is installed using genuine 3M double-sided tape supplied with the kit.
The installation itself is straightforward, but surface preparation is essential. The strength and longevity of an adhesive installation depend on starting with a clean, dry and correctly prepared surface.

1. Check the fit and position
Before removing the adhesive backing, place the RTX410 against the swingarm and confirm its intended position.
The component is shaped around the correct location, but completing a test fit will help you understand how it sits before the adhesive is exposed.
2. Clean and dry the swingarm
Remove any road dirt, grease, cleaning products or other contamination from the installation area.
The surface must be completely clean and dry before using the supplied preparation pad. Do not apply the protector over wax, polish or residue.
3. Use the supplied preparation pad
Apply the supplied primer cleaning cloth to the connecting surfaces. Ensure the full area that will contact the adhesive has been prepared.
Allow approximately 30 seconds for the prepared surface to dry.
4. Apply gentle warmth if required
A small amount of controlled warmth can help the adhesive achieve a strong bond, particularly when working in a cold garage or workshop.
Warm the installation area and adhesive gently. Do not overheat the swingarm, tape or surrounding motorcycle components.
5. Position the protector
Remove the protective film from the 3M tape without touching the adhesive surface.
Carefully align the RTX410 with the position established during the test fit. Take time to get the alignment right before allowing the adhesive to make full contact.
6. Apply firm pressure
Press the protector firmly and evenly into position for at least ten seconds.
Check around the component to make sure it is seated correctly against the swingarm profile. Follow the supplied fitting information before riding or cleaning the motorcycle.
Why use adhesive instead of drilling or bolts?
The close-fitting profile enables the RTX410 to be installed without drilling the swingarm or adding a visible bracket.
This keeps the installation simple and avoids unnecessary modification to the motorcycle. It also allows the exterior shape of the protector to remain clean and closely integrated with the swingarm.
The adhesive should not be treated as an excuse to rush the installation. Correct cleaning, preparation, temperature and pressure are what allow the supplied 3M tape to create the intended bond.
Replacement RTX410 adhesive pads are available if the protector is removed and needs to be installed again. Always replace damaged or contaminated adhesive rather than attempting to reuse it.
Which KTM Super Duke models does the RTX410 fit?

The Racetorx RTX410 is currently listed for the following motorcycles:
- KTM 1290 Super Duke R from 2020 onwards;
- KTM 1290 Super Duke RR from 2021 onwards;
- KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO from 2022 onwards; and
- KTM 1390 Super Duke models from 2024 onwards.
Owners should confirm their exact motorcycle model and year before ordering. The RTX410 is shaped for the listed swingarm design and should not be assumed to fit earlier Super Duke generations or unrelated KTM models.
The official KTM 1390 Super Duke R model page provides current motorcycle information, but compatibility with the RTX410 should always be confirmed against the Racetorx product listing.
If you are uncertain about compatibility, contact Racetorx with the motorcycle model and year before purchasing.

Is the RTX410 the same as a rear spindle bobbin?
The RTX410 is designed to protect a specific section of the swingarm by sitting directly against its surface. This differs from a rear spindle protector, which is mounted through or around the rear axle and projects from the wheel area.
Each component protects from a different position. A swingarm-mounted protector can form part of a broader crash-protection setup, but it does not guarantee that every section of the motorcycle will avoid contact during a fall.
The RTX410 product listing describes the component as swingarm crash protection. It should not be treated as a paddock-stand lifting point unless a product is specifically designed and approved for that purpose.
Does swingarm protection affect the appearance of the bike?
Protection is only useful if owners are willing to leave it fitted.
A large or poorly shaped component can interrupt the distinctive design of the Super Duke. That is why the visual fit of the RTX410 was considered alongside its protective purpose.
The scanned profile allows the component to follow the swingarm rather than fighting against its shape. Its black Delrin construction blends with the surrounding components, while the close fit keeps the installation relatively discreet.
Verified RTX410 owners have repeatedly highlighted the fit, appearance and straightforward installation in their product reviews.
Who should consider the RTX410?
The RTX410 may be relevant to:
- road riders who want additional protection against an accidental drop;
- track-day riders building a broader motorcycle protection setup;
- owners concerned about damage to the exposed swingarm;
- riders who prefer a low-profile protector that follows the bike’s existing lines; and
- KTM 1290 or 1390 Super Duke owners looking for a model-specific rather than generic solution.
As with every crash-protection component, the RTX410 should be inspected after a fall or significant impact. Replace the protector or adhesive if either has been damaged or disturbed.
A small component protecting an expensive part
The RTX410 was created around a straightforward engineering objective: protect a vulnerable area of the KTM Super Duke without spoiling the appearance of the motorcycle.
By scanning the swingarm, machining the protector from Delrin and shaping it around the available space, Racetorx created a component that looks integrated and installs without drilling or complex brackets.
This approach to KTM Super Duke swingarm protection produces a relatively small addition to the bike, positioned to help protect one of its most prominent and costly components.
